Will Kristin Chenoweth’s Dream of Headlining Hello, Dolly! on Broadway Come True?

first_img A number of talented divas, including Patti LuPone, Bette Midler and Queen Latifah, have been rumored to play the title role in the forthcoming production. The revival would mark the first mounting of Hello, Dolly! on Broadway since 1995, which was headlined by original star Carol Channing. A 1969 film adaptation starred Barbra Streisand in the titular role. Featuring music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and a book by Michael Stewart, Hello, Dolly! tells the story of an outspoken matchmaker and her attempts to marry “half-a-millionaire” Horace Vandergelder. Chenoweth won a Tony Award for You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and received an additional nomination for Wicked. Her other Broadway credits include Promises, Promises, The Apple Tree, Epic Proportions and Steel Pier. Her many TV credits include Glee, The West Wing, GCB and an Emmy-winning turn in Pushing Daisies. Chenoweth will appear on the season premiere of TV’s Say Yes to the Dress on August 16. Chenoweth is reportedly in talks to play Dolly Levi in a new Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, within the next two years.
