Salesforce opens up Lightning Bolt portal templates for specific business needs

first_img Posted on 15th September 2016Digital Marketing FacebookshareTwittertweetGoogle+share HomeDigital MarketingSalesforce opens up Lightning Bolt portal templates for specific business needs Salesforce opens up Lightning Bolt portal templates for specific business needsYou are here: Salesforce has added bolts to its Lightning.Last year, the company released generalized self-service portal templates using its Community Cloud, for businesses’ customers, partners, and employees. The templates were built with the company’s Lightning framework. Lightning enables portals for web and mobile apps to be readily assembled via the use of drag-and-drop functional components, like an organizing tool for community events or the ability to share files among a team.Nearly a thousand Lightning communities were created by businesses with these templates. European telecommunications firm Sky, for instance, created a community of its users, while Unilever employed it for Employee Communities that spanned brands.Salesforce says its research shows that, for such uses as case resolution, employee engagement, partner sales, and customer satisfaction, online communities can boost performance by 40 or more percent. Now, Salesforce has launched the next phase of portal templates, called Lightning Bolt.A componentized portal building tool was made available to ten Salesforce partners — including Accenture, Deloitte, and Cognizant — to create a dozen business-specific portal templates that include built-in logic and workflow, like recommendation engines, e-commerce, and case management. Like the original templates, these are integrated out-of-the-box with Salesforce’s popular customer relationship management (CRM) system and with the Community Cloud, and can be connected via API to other systems. The new Lightning Bolt templates include:an insurance company community for its agents;a store operations platform for internal communications;a B2B e-commerce community between sales reps and suppliers;a community of customers and partners for manufacturers;a portal for patient health;a chatbot that connects retailers with customers, partners, and employees;access to customer information and purchase history by retail store managers. In each case, the design, functions and business logic has been tailored for that specific business need. Salesforce’s AppExchange will now host a new Lightning Bolt category so more partners can build, market, and sell other portal templates.SVP Mike Stone told me that about 60 percent of the Bolt portal templates “are ready to go.” The others can be customized by businesses working with the original partner-creators, or through their own developers. From our sponsors: Salesforce opens up Lightning Bolt portal templates for specific business needs Related postsLytics now integrates with Google Marketing Platform to enable customer data-informed campaigns14th December 2019The California Consumer Privacy Act goes live in a few short weeks — Are you ready?14th December 2019ML 2019121313th December 2019Global email benchmark report finds email isn’t dead – it’s essential13th December 20192019 benchmark report: brand vs. non-brand traffic in Google Shopping12th December 2019Keep your LinkedIn advertising strategy focused in 202012th December 2019last_img read more

Ind vs Aus 1st Test: India have the edge on Day 1

first_imgIndia paceman Umesh Yadav went full throttle even as old warhorse Zaheer Khan made a slow start but managed to silence his critics during the India vs Australia Boxing Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday. Score | PhotosIt was due to their combined effort during Day 1 of Ind vs Aus Test that the Aussies were reeling on 205/5 before lower-order batsmen Peter Siddle and Brad Haddin made amends to push the Australia total to 277/6 at stumps.Together Yadav (3) and Zaheer (2) scalped five wickets between them with R Ashwin claiming the last wicket of the day in the form of debutant Ed Cowan, who made a fine 68 at the top of the heap.No doubt the Aussie total of 277/6 looks respectable at a glance, but considering that their bowlers are inexperienced and lack the firepower, the visitors very much fancy their chances at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Electing to bat the hosts didn’t get the sort of opening they would have desired as India pacer Umesh Yadav got rid of opener David Warner and an over later sent one-down batsman Shaun Marsh packing on a duck to reduce the Aussies to 46/2.Later former Aus skipper Ricky Ponting and opener Ed Cowan combined to provide the much-needed stability before rains stopped play minutes before lunch when the score was 68/2.An hour later the covers were removed and match resumed with Ponting and Test debutant Cowan batting steadily to negate the effects of the adverse weather conditions. As the weather conditions improved the two started batting at ease even as the Indians continued to bowl a probing line.advertisementSoon the former Aussie skipper Ponting completed his half-century in style off R Ashwin’s turner. No wonder the man wanted to put to rest all voices that demanded his ouster. He was well supported by southpaw Cowan, who too completed his half-century a little later.India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni utilised a pacer and a spinner in tandem to break Ponting and Cowan’s stand, but his efforts came a cropper looked at ease and batted with confidence. Interestingly, their 100-plus stand didn’t see a single aerial shot being played. But eventually Dhoni’s did pay off with Yadav increasing his victims tally to three. An edge off Ponting (62) was nicely lapped up by VVS Laxman in the slips cordon and his 113-run stand with Cowan came to a close as Aussies lost their third wicket on 159. At tea, the hosts were batting on 170/3.The third session saw the Aussie score that was once reeling on 46/2 swell to a good 200-plus. But just when things were settling down for the hosts, Zaheer Khan struck to remove Aussies skipper Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey on consecutive balls to reduce the hosts to 205/5. Zaheer got his first wicket, nice and clean, dislodging Clarke’s stumps but the second one was a bit iffy. Television replays showed that Hussey hadn’t nicked the ball to Dhoni. Unfortunately for Hussey there’s no DRS in this series. Two quick wickets and India were back in thick of things and that’s when offie R Ashwin, who was bowling in tandem with Zaheer struck to send dangerman Cowan back to the pavilion. An edge off his turner was cleanly taken by Dhoni and the man was walking back after a fine 68 and Australia were looking in bad shape with 214/6 on board. Finally Peter Siddle and Brad Haddin added 63 runs for the sixth wicket to push Australia’s total to 277/6. The two were unbeaten at close.last_img read more

England vs Ireland Only Test 5 things to watch out for in

first_imgThe Irish team posing for team photograph at Lord’sTwitter/IrelandCricketEngland have won the World Cup but far from being done for the season, they now embark upon their other big challenge – regaining the Ashes. Before they come face to face with the Australian Test side, though, they have to deal with Ireland. This match might be regarded as a warm-up for England but for the Irish, it will be a momentous occasion. They would be playing a Test at Lord’s for the first time ever. Their players will have the opportunity to occupy the same dressing room and walk through the same long room that has hosted some of the greatest names in the game. So, what to expect from this contest? Obviously England are expected to win but it won’t be the result alone that everyone would take note of. There are several other questions that need to be answered regarding the two sides. Here is a look at 5 most important things to watch out for in this one-off Test. Will Jason Roy get a chance?Twitter/Cricket World CupEngland’s opening conundrumEver since Andrew Strauss retired after the English summer of 2012, England have been struggling to find a replacement for him. Even before that search ended, Alastair Cook also retired from Test cricket. So, England are now searching for not one but two openers. In their last Test series, in West Indies, Rory Burns and Keaton Jennings occupied those positions. While the former still seems capable of becoming successful, Jennings looked hopeless in West Indies. With the Ashes Tests just one game away, England desperately need answers for the question of who could be a reliable opener. The selectors have decided to give an opportunity to Jason Roy and Joe Denly. Will the dashing ODI opener prove to be equally effective in the longer format? Or will Denly prove his credentials? Let’s wait and watch! Moeen Ali would look to gain some formReutersWho’ll be the English spinner in the Ashes?Moeen Ali and Jack Leach are both in the squad for the Ireland Test. While Ali has been performing consistently for some time, including in the series against West Indies, Leach bowled brilliantly against Sri Lanka last year before getting injured. So, who will England opt for in the Ashes series? Though Moeen has been a capable batsman as well, he is not very dependable these days. It’s quite possible that he will have to rely on his spin bowling to get into the playing XI. There, Leach will present a tough challenge. So, the performance of the spinner or spinners in this match will also be something to watch out for. Anderson’s injury is causing concerns for EnglandReutersAnderson’s fitnessIt goes without saying that James Anderson would be the key to England’s success in the Ashes. But, unfortunately for the English team, the man with over 500 Test wickets had sustained an injury while playing for his county team, Lancashire. Selectors have picked him in the team for the Ireland series and are hoping that he would recover in time. The level of Anderson’s fitness would be keenly watched by everyone. Olly Stone will be exciting to watch if he playsTwitterWill Stone and Gregory shine?England never have a dearth of good swing bowlers. But what they have been wanting for many years is a genuinely quick pacer. Olly Stone seems to be the one who can answer that question. In the county circuit, he has been regarded as among the fastest bowlers. England may just give him a chance in this match to show his skills. Lewis Gregory, on the other hand, is the typical English seam bowler who has got into the team thanks to his great run of form in the county game. With the likes of Chris Woakes and Sam Curran in the side, one wonders whether he will get an opportunity. If he does, let’s see what happens. Fans would hope for an encouraging performance from IrelandTwitterWill Ireland rise to the occasion? In their very first Test, Ireland showed great fight and at one stage, had Pakistan worrying a bit about their situation. In the end, they lost that Test but still suggested that, at home, they can be competitive. Their performance against Afghanistan in Asia wasn’t anything to write home about. This is another opportunity for the new entrants to prove their worthiness. They have some quality players like Andy Balbirnie, Kevin O’Brian and Boyd Rankin. It’s important for them to show fight, even if they don’t win. Individual good performances would be hoped for as that will set the base for future success. Cricket fans would observe Ireland’s performance closely.last_img read more

Difficulties Faced by Food Stamp Recipients Poorly Understood

first_imgNatalie Hickman, a 23-year-old resident of Baltimore City, makes $8 an hour working at a McDonald’s located in BWI Airport. Only afforded four hours of work a day, Hickman spends as much time commuting to and from her job on public transportation as she does working her shift. She makes less than $480 a month. She receives a food stamps benefit of $347 per month to feed herself and her six-month-old daughter. How far does that monthly benefit stretch? “It never lasts,” says Hickman. For many Baltimore City residents like Hickman, food stamps provide a vital if inadequate supplement to their monthly income. While economists have found that food stamps do effectively pull people out of poverty, they have also found that the benefits often do not last the month, an indictment of not only how unreasonably low the official poverty line is, but of how inaccurate common perceptions of poverty are.In Baltimore City, 208,000 people receive food stamp benefits, a figure encompassing all members of a household, according to Brian Schleter, a spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Human Resources. The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service reports that only 58 percent of eligible working-poor in Maryland participated in the program in 2011, the last year for which figures are available. Participation is defined as receiving benefits, without specifying whether people remained in the program throughout their period of eligibility. In fiscal year 2013, the average monthly benefit in Maryland was $127.39 a month per person. The federal government, not the Department Of Social Services, a state agency, establishes benefit levels and income requirements. The USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion has estimated that, for a woman between the ages of 19 and 50, a thrifty food plan – the least expensive food plan that still meets minimum nutritional requirements – will cost an average of $37.90 a week. Maryland’s monthly average benefit of $127.39 will not last four weeks at that thrifty spending level. For men between the ages of 19 and 50, a thrifty food plan costs $42.60 a week. For such an individual, Maryland’s monthly average benefit would only last three weeks.According to Ross Fraser, a spokesperson for Feeding America, a not-for-profit fighting hunger in the United States, food stamp recipients currently survive on an average of $1.40 per meal. Fraser believes if Americans had a better understanding of how food stamps recipients live, the public discussion about the program would be very different. For Dr. Robert Moffitt, Krieger-Eisenhower professor of economics at Johns Hopkins University and an expert on social welfare programs, the biggest misunderstanding about food stamps is that “it’s just not that much money and people simply need more help than that.”It was the last week of March when Hickman spoke to the AFRO. In her refrigerator, “three TV dinners, one pot pie, a Salisbury steak dinner, some salad, some salad dressing, some condiments, some milk . . . canned food, bread, and that’s all.” Hickman wishes she could afford something like crab leg or steak on occasion. In her life, she has never had either.Though her benefits do not last the month, she feels constantly at risk of having her benefits reduced by social services. “They say I make too much at work, and I don’t,” said Hickman. “I make nothing.”last_img read more
