Government denies claims it has launched crackdown on opposition

The Government has denied claims it has launched a crackdown on the opposition.Minister P. Harrison said that opposition members who were arrested recently, were arrested following months of investigations. He said that the no one was abducted in ‘white vans’ like in the past.Opposition members Udaya Gamanpila and Muhammad Muzammil were arrested over the past few days. Following the arrests, the opposition charged that the Government was engaged in a witch-hunt on the opposition. (Colombo Gazette)
