India vs Australia 1st T20 Review: Visitors snatch a thrilling victory in the final…

first_imgAdvertisement AdvertisementAfter Nathan Coulter Nile did a brilliant job in restricting the hosts to 126, the Australian batsmen powered by Maxwell’s half century managed to snatch victory in a final ball thriller.Chasing 127 to take a lead in the series wasn’t a mammoth task one would think. But the Australian batsmen did not make an easy work of it. They lost both Stoinis and Finch of successive deliveries and were left reeling at 5-2 after just 13 balls had been bowled.Following this, Glenn Maxwell came in to change the complexion of the game. Usually feared for his wide array of shots and the kind of power he packs in them, Maxwell offlate hasn’t lived up to the occasion. But today when he walked in, it looked as though the scene was ideally set up for him. After a cautious start in the initial few deliveries he faced, Maxwell opened the floodgates after he smashed 3 boundaries off Umesh in the 4th over. Since then, the game firmly rested in the visitors hand with both Maxwell and Short slowly but steadily constructing a solid partnership.India’s trump card Chahal couldn’t restrict the pair as Maxwell greeted the leg spinner with a four and a six. Debutant Markande too had little to play with and caused little damage to the left right combination at the crease. The end of the 13th over saw the Aussies being stationed at 83/2, needing just over 6 an over for victory. Maxwell at this point had reached his half century and was threating to finish the game as soon as possible. But Chahal had the last laugh as he returned to remove the Victorian to spurn a new twist in the tale. An over later the hosts got yet another bonus wicket as Short runned himself out in a bizzare fashion. This wicket saw a glimpse of hope develop on the Indian fans.Incoming Ashton Turner was quickly removed by Pandya before he could cause any damage. Pandya then ended his quota in superb fashion having conceded only 17 runs along with picking up a wicket.Markande, who until then had conceded 26 in 3 overs returned to bowl a tight over that saw him give away just 5 runs. The equation now came down to 16 needed of the last two.Kohli then decided to give the penultimate over to Bumrah and leave Umesh to bowl the last over. Bumrah came on to bowl a superb over, giving just 2 runs and at the same time remove both Handscomb and Coulter Nile of successive deliveries. This over saw the scenario of the game change completely. With the pair of Richardson and Cummins at the crease, Umesh had the task of defending 14 for the final over. His error in judgement saw the visitors profit with a couple of boundaries and help them bring the equation down to 2 needed of the final ball. Pat Cummins then skillfully tapped the ball to long off to complete a double and draw first blood in the series.Earlier, Australians had won the toss and let India have a go first with the bat. Similar to Maxwell and Short, it was only the pair of Kohli and Rahul that got the scoreboard moving.Rahul in his comeback game notched up a fifty while the skipper scored a breezy 24. None of the other batters could get going as Coulter-Nile bowled brilliantly to remove the middle order without any damage being caused.Dhoni as usual was left to work with the lower middle order and he took his time in the first couple of overs. Even though he relatively played a slow knock, scoring just 29 in 37 balls, it was his efforts that saw India post a total in excess of 120.In the end it could be easily said that the hosts fell short by 10-20 runs. But had Umesh Yadav bowled a tighter over, the game would have been a totally different read.It all boils down to crunch situations and the Aussies held their nerve to snatch this important win. While it wouldn’t matter much for the hosts, this win would do wonders to the confidence of the Australians, who didn’t enjoy a good time vs the same opponents at home.Brief Scores: Australia 127 for 7 (Maxwell 56, Short 37, Bumrah 3-16) beat India 126 for 7 (Rahul 50, Dhoni 29*, Coulter-Nile 3-26) by three wickets. Also Read:Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed reports UAE coach to ICC for match fixing and gets him a 10 year banlast_img
