Jules has expressed his disappointment with the exclusion of calypso at this year’s World Creole Music Festival.Sye was part of the Fanatik Band who provided musical accompaniment and vocals for two regional artistes; Fredo of the Seventeen Plus of the USVI and Onyan from Antigua, at the festival on Saturday night. He told the press at a post performance press conference that he is very disappointed that calypso did not form part of the lineup.“It hurts my heart this year to see that our first lineup came out and I was on as Road March King of Dominica, and King Dice as four-time calypso King, and then the second lineup came out with our names out”.“We would like to see calypso on the World Creole Music Festival line up every year”.He noted that the World Creole Music Festival stage should be used as one of the mediums to promote Dominica’s local calypsonians and music.“That’s our music, that’s our culture; it’s about promoting our culture”.“The World Creole Music Festival is not just about having visitors here, but when they come they have an opportunity to see us on the world stage, even if it’s a local stage but in itself it is a world stage,” he explained. He acknowledged that the local bands have received exposure and promotion at the festival and therefore calypso should receive the same.“We have other artistes coming here so we need to promote our local artistes not only the bands but our calypso as well”.Dominica Vibes News
