‘Theo Walcott MUST leave Arsenal for sake of his career’, talkSPORT told

first_img Do the futures of Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere lie at Arsenal? Theo Walcott has ‘underachieved’ at Arsenal and MUST leave for the good of his career, but Jack Wilshere still has a future at the London club, believes former England star Ray Wilkins.Walcott has become the subject of frustration with fans as well as manager Arsene Wenger in recent seasons. The 27-year-old might be a regular name of the team-sheet, but he has failed to really deliver and fulfil his potential for the Gunners since arriving as a 16-year-old rookie from Southampton. His pace remains undoubtedly his strongest asset, although his end product still leaves a lot to be desired. He has scored nine goals in 42 appearances in all competitions this term, with only five of those coming in the Premier League. There have also been questions raised over Wilshere’s long-term future at the club after yet another season passed him by due to injury. And coach Wilkins, who made 84 appearances in a Three Lions shirt during his playing days, has given his opinion on who should stay and who should go.Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “Jack Wilshere must stay at Arsenal, but I definitely think Theo has to move on.“Theo has underachieved for the last couple of years and he is not getting any games for Arsenal at the moment.“He has got to play games to fulfil that potential he’s always had, but to get games you’ve got to force the manager’s hand, and I doesn’t look like that’s going to happen at Arsenal.“But Jack, on the other hand, he has got to stay. Arsenal have got to get him fully fit and playing.“I really want to see the Jack Wilshere we know and love, the Jack Wilshere who was crucial to England during qualification, playing at the Euros.” 1last_img
