Star Wars Battlefront II Trailer Promises a Finished Game

first_img Mattel Unveils Fashionable ‘Star Wars’ x Barbie Dolls‘Star Wars: Resistance’ Finale Sets Up ‘The Rise of Sk… Just in time for this December’s cannibalistic Star Wars: The Last Jedi, EA and DICE have prepared a sequel to their reboot of the fan-favorite multiplayer shooter Star Wars Battlefront. The first trailer for Battlefront II was supposed to debut in a few days at Star Wars Celebration, but you can watch a leaked Star Wars Battlefront II trailer right now on Vimeo. Unlike its predecessor, it looks like Battlefront II will actually be a complete game. The hype (and sales) for 2015’s Battlefront were immense. Not only was it launching during peak Star Wars mania thanks to The Force Awakens, but the Battlefront name itself had a lot of its own nostalgia. Building on the underrated multiplayer mode of their Clone Wars game, with 2004’s Star Wars Battlefront and its sequel Pandemic Studios delivered two legitimately impressive games for you and dozens of friends to act out your Star Wars dreams on the battlefield.EA’s Battlefront reboot had its charms. It looked gorgeous on the Frostbite engine, and you could play as heroes such as famous Star Wars franchise character Emperor Sheev Palpatine. But the generic Battlefield gameplay, reduced player count, wonky vehicles (except in the Rogue One VR expansion), lack of single-player, and overall thin amount of content made this merely an okay Star Wars shooter instead of the true heir to Battlefront in the eyes of many.Based on the (gameplay-free) trailer, Battlefront II hopes to rectify some of those mistakes (perhaps because the team has had more time to actually develop the game). The single-player campaign seems to revolve around an Imperial soldier after the destruction of the Second Death Star. Maybe they are involved in the creation of the First Order? What if they’re Snoke?!? This might even be a call back to the similar plot of the original Battlefront II.Multiplayer will remain the focus and Battlefront II draws inspiration from “across all eras” of Star Wars. So expect battles from both before and after the reign of the Empire. New playable heroes include Yoda, Darth Maul, Kylo Ren, and Rey (but not her parents).Star Wars Battlefront II isn’t the only Star Wars game EA has cooking now that it has its hands on that hot brand. Respawn is working on a Star Wars game that will hopefully be as good as and sell way better than Titanfall II. Meanwhile, Jade Raymond, Amy Hennig, and Dead Space developers Visceral Games are working on what might be the spiritual rebirth of cancelled Game of the Year Star Wars 1313.If Star Wars must exist forever, the least we can get is good video games. Will see if Star Wars Battlefront II holds up its end of the deal when it launches this holiday. Stay on targetlast_img read more
